The M42 motorway was shut in both directions this morning (11 September) and is expected to remain shut westbound for several hours, causing significant disruptions for drivers heading southward towards the M5.

The closure, which commenced following a serious crash, is specifically affecting the junctions between Portway/Redditch (Junction 3) and Alvechurch/Hopwood (Junction 2).

While eastbound lanes have reopened, motorists are advised to follow diversion routes.

According to a spokesperson from West Mercia Police, the motorway closure will continue for several hours due to ongoing police investigations following a serious collision.

Drivers heading towards the M5 are encouraged to seek alternative routes to avoid delays.

A representative from National Highways indicated the incident, which occurred shortly before 10.20pm on 10th September, has led to the closure being necessary throughout the night and into the morning due to its nature.
