A charity working across the region is urging people to check in with their mental health as we approach the start of a new year.

Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind say it sees a rise in people reaching out for support through the winter months.

It also adds that the festive season for many, the pressure to spend, celebrate, or feel 'a certain way' can take a toll on people's mental and emotional wellbeing.

Chief executive of Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind Steven Hill said: "We know during winter people often have to stay indoors more, particularly our older population, so they will become more isolated.

“It’s not the same atmosphere when you go outside and meet people as you don’t have that buzz of the nice weather so people become that much more isolated and yes we see that increase.

“We also have seasonal affective disorder (SAD) which obviously impacts a lot of us in terms of the darker nights, but it’s important people know that we are here to support them.”
