Liberal Democrats have won the Worcestershire County Council Bromsgrove South by-election.

Sam Ammar has been elected after receiving 1,416 votes, over 500 ahead of Reform's Philip Hingley in second who got 911.

Matt Dormer from the Conservatives finished third with 309 and Labour's Laura Rollins ended up in fourth with 92 votes.

The seat became available in September following the resignation of Reform's Gaynor Jean-Louis who stepped down for health reasons after having been elected in May.

Ammar was beaten on that occasion by 89 votes and said it was an "immense privilege" to be elected.

It feels absolutely amazing being elected," she said.

"Everybody who's put their faith and trust in me and the Liberal Democrats I'm immensely thankful for them for doing so.

"I pay tribute to everybody who's stood in this election, I think it is really important for democracy for people to put themselves forward."

On her priorities she added: "We've got a lot a traffic and roadworks so I want to meet with highways, there are two committees I'm interested in, one of which is the SEND children committee, I think children with special educational needs need strong education."

The result means the Lib Dems now have seven seats on the county council, with Reform dropping from 27 to 26.

Turnout was at 30.3% with 2,735 votes.
