Organisers of a Herefordshire kite festival say this year's event has brought in people from all around the UK.

The Leominster and Hereford Kite Festival got underway yesterday (12 July) at the National Trust's Berrington Hall.

First held in the county in 2000 according to those in charge, alongside flying kites, it also holds sessions showing people how to make them.

Bill Souten is the event organiser and the chairman of the Midlands Kite Fliers group which he says have been flying kites for nearly 50 years.

While he welcomes the warm weather, he's hoping they'll be some wind about so they can fly their kites.

"Hopefully looking at the forecast there will be some breeze, whether it's going to be enough for our bigger kits to be flying I just don't know, but most of the group have kites for very light winds which they'll attempt to fly," he said.

"I've got kite fliers coming from virtually all over the country, Kent, Sussex, Wales, Scotland, one guys coming from Northern Ireland and I think I'm hoping that a Dutch friend is coming over as well just to fly this weekend.

"When we did the first one after the Covid years it was so nice to see so many old friends and colleagues arriving, it was tremendous and there is a very strong sort of friendship and bond between all these kite fliers."

Flying is held between 10-5pm.
