Police are investigating after a suspected arson attack at a derelict building in Worcester.

Crews were called to tackle the blaze on Bromyard Road on Saturday afternoon.

We're told the building was completely destroyed in the flames.

In a statement over the weekend, West Mercia Police said: "We received a call around 1:20pm on Saturday afternoon (28 June) with a report of a fire at a derelict building on Bromyard Road in Worcester.

"The fire is being treated as arson and enquiries are on-going."

'100% destroyed'

The Fire Service told us: "Five Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews – one each from Worcester, Wyre Forest, Droitwich, Malvern and Redditch Fire Stations – plus the aerial ladder platform and incident command unit from Worcester were called at 12:55 on 28 June to a building fire in Bromyard Road, Worcester.

"A building, around 31m by 47m, was 100% destroyed by fire which had started at the exterior of the building. Multiple seats of fire were found which were believed to have been deliberately started.

"The fire was extinguished by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using two hosereels, one main jet and a covering jet.

"A thermal imaging camera was also used. Crews dampened down and turned over.

"The aerial ladder platform was used for monitoring of roof space. There were no casualties.

"Network Rail (log 3081565) and Police also attended. A reinspection was carried out at 18:30 and the incident closed at 19:00."
