A spokesperson for West Mercia police has said:

"A scene guard is in place near the tennis courts while officers gather evidence and carry out forensic enquiries."

Detective Superintendent Tony Garner, said: “I understand that this news will be unsettling for the local community.

“Please be assured that we’re treating the incident incredibly seriously and are following all lines of enquiry.

“We will provide further information as soon as we’re able to.

“I know that the area is likely to be busy today with families enjoying the sunshine and visiting the Worcester Show. You’ll see an increased police presence around Cripplegate park and Pitchcroft and we’d encourage anyone with any concerns to speak to officers.”
