An event has been launched in Redditch aiming to educate people more about bees and their importance to the environment.

The 'Miracle of the bees' experience has been co-created by young people from Imaan Youth Club, artists Vortex Creates and Reimagine Redditch as part of the Bee Creative project.

Children at the youth club have worked with the different artists to explore the themes of bees through graffiti, textiles, Islamic geometric patterns, calligraphy, glass painting, architecture, model making and set design.

Programme director for Reimagine Redditch Richard Bromhall says it was an idea they came up with after working with the youth club last summer and it's been great getting to put it all together.

"We've gone on a really lovely journey of understanding different elements of the practise and how we develop this work and I think what we've got at the end of it is something really different," he said.

"The starting point was what the young people were learning about at their youth club around this time last year, which was all about the bees, the importance of the bees in the Quran and the environment.

"What we know is that if people from the community have had a role in shaping the arts and culture then other communities in Redditch will be interesting in coming to see it, and the more relevant it is to people, the more enjoyable it is for a wider audience."

It runs from 19-22 July and is based in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.
