Herefordshire veteran calls on government to support former servicepeople
Gemma Morgan said the UK was "failing to deliver" on its promise to ex-soldiers
A Herefordshire veteran has called on the government to show support for former army servicepeople to back new proposed reforms for support.
An open letter made by veteran charity Help for Heroes has been signed by over 40,000 people - attracting big names including Ross Kemp and Lorraine Kelly.
Now, local residents in Herefordshire are being urged to help sign the petition to get a debate in Parliament about improving the support veterans reforms.
Gemma Morgan, who served in the army for six years, has now asked for people in the region to back the initiative before it is presented to the Prime Minister later this month.
"Many veterans, particularly those injured while serving, still struggle to locate and access the quality healthcare, financial security and support they need and deserve.
"As a nation, we have made a promise through the Armed Forces Covenant, that no-one would be disadvantaged because they served our nation. We are failing to deliver on this promise."
Gemma, from Ross-on-Wye, added: “Help for Heroes has 20 years of experience, supporting tens of thousands of veterans and families, so we know what needs to be done.
"With the push to expand our Armed Forces, because of an increasingly unstable global picture, if we don’t get this right now, we’re sleepwalking towards a crisis.”
