A brick-built chapel in a Herefordshire village is among a list of places being commemorated by Historic England after being granted protection this year.

The public body awarded Broxwood Court Garden Chapel in Pembridge grade two listed status in June, classing it as a "rare surviving example of a 19th-century private Catholic place of worship".

Across England, 199 historic buildings and sites have been added to the National Heritage List for England in 2025.

Now, Historic England is celebrating and shining a spotlight on the stories of 19 of what they say are some of the 'remarkable' sites.

"We like every year to pull out what we consider to represent the tremendous variety and diversity of buildings and places across England that have significant special architectural historic interest," said Charles O'Brien, who's Historic England's listing and architectural research director.

"It really enables us to reflect the full story of the nation's history, but also because these places are special and it's often not obvious to people why they are special.

"So we want to be able to tell the stories behind these buildings, why they're important either as designs or for the history that they express, and that means that then in the future if there are plans for change that special interest is prioritised so that change is done sensitively."

New additions to the National Heritage List for this year comprised of 173 listings, 21 scheduled monuments and five parks and gardens, with a further 129 amendments made to existing listings.
