Herefordshire is set to showcase its history over the next eight days through the launch of a new event.

The Herefordshire Histories Festival runs from today and aims to give people the chance to explore the county's past.

One of the festival's directors David Hitchiner says they decided to launch the event after being made aware of others nearby.

"It started off with me having a conversation with a person who said Gloucestershire has a history festival," he said.

"I ended up with a bit of time on my hands so I talked to various people, and everybody was excited and enthusiastic about it, we got a small steering group of people involved and it's grown, its captured the imagination.

"The idea is to celebrate the county's history as we have so much history in this county and we do not shout enough about it. "

Events are taking place from 10-18th May all across the county.
