Herefordshire man has competed 'all over the world' in wood cutting competitions
Hereford's George Spencer is one of those taking part in the Stihl TIMBERSPORTS British Championships being held in Malvern this weekend
A man from Herefordshire has said he's really looking forward to being involved again in the TIMBERSPORTS British Men's Championship.
The competition is set to take place later today (13 June) at the Royal Three Counties Show in Malvern, with the women's and rookie one taking place tomorrow.
It sees athletes see how fast they can chop through large logs using a combination of axes through four different disciplines, the stock saw, standing block chop, single buck and underhand chop, with them earning points based on their times to complete each one.
Hereford's George Spencer has been competing for several years, representing Great Britain during it, and he said it has taken him around the globe.
"I've competed in Australia, we've been all over Europe," he said.
"So I went Switzerland, had a chop there, and it's amazing how big the sport is outside of Stihl and that's where you grow and get better by speaking to people."
Last year's men's competition at Malvern saw Glen Penlington finish in first, with George ending up in third.
On how he has been training for this, George added: "This year I've worked on slowing it down, so instead of cutting loads of blocks, we call them blocks, which are the logs, I've just like cut five blocks in a session and slowed it right down, videoed everything, analysed it for more productive training."
The winner of the 2025 women's event at the Three Counties Showground was Hay-on-Wye's Rachel Ferrington while Rowan Luxton won the rookie's one, with both back for this year's running.
