A Hereford group is urging people to make sure they're disposing of their rubbish correctly when around public spaces as the sunnier weather starts to arrive.

It's as the national environmental campaign called the Great British Spring Clean, which sees hundreds of thousands of volunteers clear litter from spaces like streets, parks and beaches, has been taking place and officially ends today (29 March).

Running this year from the 13 March, since 2016 it has seen people pledge to pick up more than 4.5 million bags of litter.

Nikki Perry from the Hereford Community Clean Up group, who carry out litter picks throughout the year and different seasons, is urging people to not leave rubbish lying around.

"Litter is becoming an increasing problem as we buy more products, so we need to make sure that it's all cleared away in a sensible way," she said.

"If you clear the litter, an area is more likely to stay litter free, so it's quite important to get those little bits out of the way so that you maintain that litter free environment.

"I think that it would be really good if everyone took it upon themselves to look out their front door, look up and down their street, and clear any litter that they can see close to their home.

It only needs to be a five minute job, and if everyone did that, we would all make a huge impact on our environment."
