Redditch man pleads guilty to ex-partner's murder
Chris Hemming will be sentenced on Monday for Cheryl McKenna's murder.
A man has pleaded guilty to the murder of his ex-partner today at Worcester Crown Court.
47 year-old Chris Hemming of Other Road in Redditch pleaded guilty to the murder of 44 year-old Cheryl McKenna. The plea has come on the fifth day of the trial.
At around 9.30am on Monday 11 November last year, Hemming made a call to the police stating he had killed Cheryl at their home.
Cheryl was found by police officers and paramedics with stab wounds. The injuries were so severe, she could not be saved despite the efforts of the paramedics. She was then declared dead at the scene.
Hemming was immediately arrested by police officers and charged the following day. He was then remanded in custody.
Chris Hemming will be sentenced on Monday 21st July at Worcester Crown Court.
Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Lougher said: “I would firstly like to pay tribute to Cheryl’s family who have lost a mother, daughter, sister and aunt, at the hands of someone who was once supposed to love and protect her."
“The loss they have felt, and will continue to feel, is unimaginable and I hope that today’s result will allow them for some closure moving forward."
“Hemming is a dangerous and manipulative individual, and will soon face sentencing for his deplorable and remorseless crime.”
