Network Rail warn passengers of disruption following Worcester landslip
A landslip has damaged a railway cutting between Droitwich Spa and Worcester Foregate Street.
Network Rail are advising passengers in Worcestershire and the West Midlands to check before they travel following a landslip near Worcester last week.
The landslip damaged a railway cutting between Droitwich Spa and Worcester Foregate Street on Thursday afternoon. Trains were able to continue running after Network Rail engineering teams put in place a short-term solution.
However the retaining wall collapsed further on Saturday afternoon, causing concern about the earthworks above.
Currently, more than 1,200 tonnes of soil is being excavated and over 240 concrete blocks are being installed to protect the railway along a 125-metre stretch of track. This work began on Friday and will continue until the cutting is stabilised.
Network Rail say no services can currently operate on the line between Worcester Foregate Street and Droitwich Spa. Meanwhile, the line between Worcester Shrub Hill and Worcester Foregate Street/Droitwich Spa has stayed open, but an amended service is currently running.
Network Rail aim to reopen the railway as soon as possible. They say services are expected to resume in the next few days.
