A horse called Mitchell has been rescued after falling into the River Stour in Worcestershire.

Firefighters were called to the scene at on 22nd February after Mitchell slipped down the embankment of the river.

Crews from Wyre Forest Fire Station, Worcester Fire Station's special skills response team, and Bromyard Fire Station's Large Animal Rescue team found Mitchell standing in fairly deep and fast- flowing water.

After advice from an attending vet it was determined that the safest way to rescue Mitchell was to lift him out as it was not possible to guide him out by walking or swimming.

The horse was sedated and with the assistance of a telehandler from a local farmer lifted clear of the water and carried across the field to a safe place.

Mitchell was then helped to stand and covered in rugs to help him keep warm.

Bromyard Fire Station said after 30 minutes Mitchell was able to walk back to his stable.

The vet then carried out a full assessment and a further visit the next morning confirmed Mitchell was "in good health and back to his normal self."
