People across both counties are being told to take extra care when having the likes of disposable barbecues now the temperatures have started to get warmer.

The reminder comes from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue service as the late May bank holiday weekend is currently taking place.

It's urging those who are heading out and visiting places to only have fires and barbecues in places where they're permitted and to stick to any guidelines attached to these areas.

Station commander for prevention, John Elsworth, said: "Summer does bring an increased risk of fires, thankfully, the big ones are not common, but when they do happen, they can be quite devastating for people, for wildlife, and for the environment.

"Where you are allowed to have a barbecue or maybe a little open fire, make sure it's in a safe area first of all.

"The biggest key elements then are making sure that it's never, ever left unattended and then when it's finished with, make sure it's completely extinguished."

More advice can be found over on the fire service's website.
