Foundation launched to improve motorcycle safety
The family of Dr Steven Lee, who tragically lost his life in a collision in Ross-on-Wye in August 2022, have paid tribute to him following the sentencing of the man responsible for the accident.
Dr Steven Lee died in the collision when his motorbike collided with a tractor and trailer on the A40 near Ganarew.
Philip Baker received an eight-year prison sentence and was disqualified from driving for nine years after being convicted of causing Steven’s death by dangerous driving at Worcester Crown Court on 22nd September.
Steven’s family shared: “Steven’s life was lived to the absolute fullest and he achieved so much in the time he had. He was able to help, support and contribute to the lives of so many people and did not hesitate to do so. We remember him as a loving son, adored little brother, entertaining uncle, wonderful partner and a great friend. He will always be missed.”
Steven, a talented piano player and teacher, had a passion for adrenaline-fueled activities, including motorbikes.
At 13, he joined the Air Training Corps (ATC) and gained the Queen’s Commission as a pilot officer, continuing to volunteer with the ATC.
He was pursuing a career in medicine, having studied biology and completed a master's in Human Immunology, before enrolling in a medical degree at Swansea University.
Swansea University posthumously awarded Steven his doctorate, acknowledging his hard work and limitless potential. His sister Rachel described the ceremony as bittersweet.
The family is also raising awareness of the Dr Steven Lee Foundation, aimed at reducing road fatalities by funding advanced motorcycle training for new riders.
