Extra ambulance crews, more 999 call assessors and operational officers are being put in place in the West Midlands this weekend.

It's as the hot weather returns and the nation gears up for England’s World Cup quarter-final on 11 July.

The West Midlands Ambulance Service has started preparing for an increase in call-outs.

A spokesperson says the predicted hot weather is expected to lead to an increase in heat-related illness, dehydration and medical emergencies.

They also say high-profile football fixtures often lead to an increase in calls linked to celebrations and large gatherings.

Chief Operating Officer, Nathan Hudson, said: “We want everyone to enjoy the fantastic weather and hopefully celebrate an England victory, but we’d encourage people to look after themselves, their friends and their families while doing so.

"Simple things like drinking plenty of water, protecting yourself from the sun, checking in on elderly or vulnerable relatives and neighbours and celebrating responsibly can make a real difference."
