Jade Morris, a former prison custody officer, has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for an illicit relationship with prisoner Jerome Nunes at Birmingham Crown Court on 9th October.

Morris, 37, was convicted of misconduct in a public office and for encouraging the use of a prohibited mobile phone by Nunes, 35, who had previously pleaded guilty under the Prison Act 1952 and received a nine-month sentence.

The relationship was uncovered in October 2022 following the recovery of a mobile phone from a prison window, revealing sustained communication over a six-month period.

Georgina Davies of the Crown Prosecution Service emphasized the breach of trust and integrity expected from those working within the prison system.

Davies stated, "Jade Morris knew that prisoners should not have access to mobile phones yet chose to engage in a prolonged relationship with Nunes, directly facilitating his criminal offending."

The Crown Prosecution Service collaborated with police to ensure both defendants pleaded guilty, reflecting the severity of the misconduct.
