Organisers of an event taking place in Hereford to mark International Women's Day have said it will act as a reminder for why the day still matters.

Herefordshire Women's Equality group are holding it tomorrow (7 March) in partnership with West Mercia Women’s Aid to bring together people and community organisations.

It's announced the occasion, which has the theme titled "Standing Our Ground", is to focus on "connection, reflection, and solidarity" and celebrate progress made with women's rights but also highlight the importance to keep pushing forward with them.

Rebecca Farkas from the equality group said: "We think it's really important that we celebrate the great stuff that goes on for women, but also we take a stand and make sure that we're not allowing our rights in this country to be rolled back.

"This is a really nice opportunity to celebrate together and have a good day, but the background to that is that there's still a gender pay gap, there's still a lot of discrimination, the internet is quite difficult for women at times, there's all these things going on.

"We work really hard, there's lots of women in this country and men who support us as well, who work to improve the rights of women and girls here and we just don't want to see any of that roll back, so that was the theme of standing our ground that we came up with."

In Worcester, hundreds of hand-stitched pennants have been put on display with messages such as "just walking home" on them ahead of International Women's Day.

Worcester Craftivists have created over 500 to mark five years since the murder of Sarah Everard and to also highlight women's safety.
