A sinkhole has forced the closure of the B4204 in Tenbury, leading to concerns as many drivers persist in disregarding police warnings.

The road closure began on Thursday, 5th February, when a 20-foot stretch of road subsided due to flooding and pre-existing cracks.

Police officers from the Martley and Tenbury Safer Neighbourhood Team were quickly on the scene to manage the situation, implementing road closure signs to protect drivers.

Despite these signs, a significant number of motorists attempted to navigate around the closure, risking their safety.

Malvern Hills Police commented on the situation, humorously noting: "Today (5/2/2026), officers from the Martley & Tenbury Safer Neighbourhood Team were deployed to a huge sink hole on the B4204 near Rochford.

"Now there comes a time in everyone's life when they just want the ground to open and swallow them up, but it's truly amazing just how many drivers ignored the police road closure signs and almost got their wish! Police signs can look out of place, but they are used to manage fast-moving and often dangerous situations. Ignore them at your peril!”

Local authorities continue to urge drivers to comply with road signage and seek alternative routes to ensure safety.
