Worcestershire County Council has reiterated its ongoing dedication to the Severn Stoke Flood Alleviation Scheme, amidst local concerns about the project's progress.

The scheme is primarily led by the Environment Agency.

However, Worcestershire County Council wants to reassure the community of its unwavering support.

Councillor Ian Cresswell, Cabinet Member for Environment and Communities, emphasised the importance of the project to Severn Stoke and its surroundings.

He said, “We understand how important this scheme is to residents in Severn Stoke and the surrounding area. While the scheme is led by the Environment Agency, Worcestershire County Council has remained fully supportive throughout, and our financial commitment has not changed."

The Council is collaborating closely with the Environment Agency to ensure that all necessary arrangements are completed correctly, safeguarding public funding and enabling project delivery.

To aid the project's advancement, the Council plans to work with its civil engineering contractor, Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd. The contractor's previous experience and local expertise will be instrumental once all agreements are finalized.

The Council, along with the Environment Agency and Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd, successfully collaborated on the Toronto Close Flood Scheme, utilizing a similar approach. The insights from that project are expected to facilitate the smooth execution of the Severn Stoke scheme.

The completion of several technical and contractual steps between the Environment Agency, Worcestershire County Council, and the contractor is required before work can commence.

Further updates will be provided once these arrangements are in place.
