Accessible waiting zones which can help ensure wheelchair users travel safely on the rail network have been installed at two trains stations in Worcester.

West Midlands Railway say designated areas are now in place at Worcester Foregate Street and Worcester Shrub Hill.

A spokesperson for the service said: “Following the successful implementation of a designated waiting area for wheelchair users at Witton station, we are delighted to have introduced the signage to Shrub Hill and Foregate Street.

"They ensure wheelchair users can be met by our staff at a specific point on the platform and assisted efficiently.”

Cameron Wood from Hereford has been working with the rail service to look at ways trains and stations can be improved to help make smoother journeys for those requiring assistance.

He says it's important people don't stand in the boxes so they can be used, and they can make a real difference to those travelling.

"The Worcester stations were never part of the original plans for this project so to see the stations now have them is incredible," he said.

"People can actually travel with confidence and ease on the rail network because there is things in place to ensure there journeys can be better by having these waiting spaces at stations.

"It is very difficult to get to the waiting spaces when you've got so many people on the platforms, so it is vital people are just mindful where they are standing to keep them clear."

All zones are clearly marked out in the form of a square which is blue and white and has a white wheelchair logo inside it.
