The Wyre Forest District Council has elected it's youngest ever chairman.
Councillor George Connolly, who's 28, was elected to the role at the Council’s annual meeting last night (Wednesday 13 May), succeeding outgoing Chairman Councillor Paul Harrison.
Councillor Connolly represents Franche and Habberley North ward on the district council and has served residents there for the past three years.
He is also a town councillor and has previously held the title of Kidderminster's youngest Mayor at 27.
Connolly, who is a lifelong Kidderminister resident, is well known in the community and outside of public life is a county-level darts player.
As Chairman, he will represent the council at various events across the district, including community and charity functions.
He will also chair full council meetings and work to raise money for his chosen charity, the Motor Neurone Disease Association
Councillor Connolly said:
“I am extremely honoured to have been elected Chairman of Wyre Forest District Council. It is a real privilege to represent both the council and the communities we serve, locally and beyond.”
“Becoming the youngest Chairman, following my time as the youngest Mayor of Kidderminster, has been a bit of a whirlwind. It shows that age does not have to be a barrier to making a positive difference.”
“During my time as Mayor, I saw first‑hand how much work goes into supporting our local communities. I’m really looking forward to seeing even more of that across the district in the year ahead.”
Councillor Kenneth Henderson, who represents Areley Kings and Riverside, will serve as Vice Chairman for the municipal year.
