A young pony, now named Merlin, has been rescued by Gloucester City Council staff after being found wandering in the Westgate district of the city near rising flood waters.

Merlin was reported to have been abandoned and he had been his way onto a main road.

Measures were taken to move him to a safer location within Gloucester, where he is currently being cared for and is reported to be fit and healthy.

A decision is now being made about Merlin's future care.
