Gloucestershire young persons support service reminding students exam grades don’t define you
Thousands of students across the county will be receiving their GCSE results today.
A young persons support service in Gloucestershire is reminding students that there are still options out there if they don’t receive the GCSE grades they hoped for.
It’s as thousands of students will be waking up in anticipation to pick up their results today.
Many teenagers feel stress and anxiety during their exam periods and the time in between waiting for their results.
Talk Well offer support to 9-25 year olds in the county who need counselling or someone to talk to and are offering their advice to GCSE students.
Sarah Phillips, from the service, said not to worry if you don’t get the results you hoped for: “It isn’t the end of the word, but it does feel like it, it can feel like it.
“There can be a lot of internal and external pressure on getting the results that you might’ve been predicted or that you might’ve hoped that you’d achieve, but it’s ok to feel disappointed as well.”
She added: “We can give ourselves so much negative self-talk so think ‘how would I support my friend in this scenario’.
“Our GCSE results don’t define us, our results for any exams don’t define our capabilities and there’s a lot of things that they don’t measure.”
The service offer counselling face to face as well as a free anonymous chat service online.
Parents and carers can also reach out if they need advice on how to support a young person in their life.
