Stroud District Council say they are aware of text messages being received, purporting to be sent by the Department for Work and Pensions in relation to Winter Fuel/Energy Allowance payments.

The message asks people to click on the link in the text which takes you to a malicious website.

They're advising people not to click on the link contained within the message.

For winter 2025/26, Winter Fuel Payments will be made to those born before September 22, 1959, with those having an income under £35,000 potentially receiving between £100 and £300.

Most eligible people will receive the payment automatically in November or December, with a letter indicating the amount and payment details.

Action Fraud advises that you should report a scam by forwarding the text for free to 7726. You can also report a scam to the police through the Action Fraud website.
