University of Gloucestershire wins triple recognition for City Campus construction
City Campus named Building Project of the Year and receives top honour in regional awards
The University of Gloucestershire's City Campus project has earned three prestigious accolades at the Construction Excellence West Midlands Awards 2026.
Taking home the Building Project of the Year Award, the Retrofit Award, and the overall Winner of Winners Award, the innovative teaching and community centre was celebrated at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground ceremony in Birmingham.
The honours reflect the collaborative efforts of the university's delivery partners, including Morgan Sindall Construction, PAGABO, Ridge, Arup, Coreus, and Denton Powell.
The Construction Excellence West Midlands Awards are highly esteemed within the region’s construction community, recognising outstanding practices and collaboration in building, housing, infrastructure, and facilities development.
The City Campus project stands as a benchmark for high-quality retrofit and transformation since its onset in March 2021, when the university acquired the former Debenhams building.
Officially opened by The Princess Royal in January, the campus houses Education, Psychology and Social Work programmes, as well as public facilities like an Arts, Health and Wellbeing Centre and a public library.
Future developments at City Campus include the Three Counties Dental School and the Gloucestershire Dental Treatment Hub, set to be operational by 2027, funded by the University and NHS Gloucestershire ICB.
Vice-Chancellor, Dame Clare Marchant DBE, expressed admiration for the achievement, stating it exemplifies collaboration and ambition to deliver exceptional facilities.
Richard Fielding from Morgan Sindall Construction highlighted the honour in transforming a historic building into a modern facility and credited the entire project team's collaborative efforts.
In a previous win, the University secured the Heritage and Regeneration Award at the Believe in Gloucester Awards for sensitively restoring a historic Gloucester landmark.
