Police have arrested three individuals and seized equipment following an illegal rave in an industrial unit in St Ives.

The event was discovered by officers on patrol, who encountered the rave in Burrel Road around 1.30 am on Sunday, 8th March.

A dispersal order was swiftly enacted, leading to over 400 people being removed from the area.

Among those arrested were a 22-year-old man from Doddington suspected of burglary and organising the unlicensed musical event.

He was bailed until 7th June, with conditions barring him from entering St Ives.

An 18-year-old from Stroud and a 26-year-old man from Swindon were also arrested on suspicion of violating the dispersal order, violent disorder, and possession of drugs.

Both individuals are bailed until 6th June and prohibited from entering Cambridgeshire.

Police also seized music equipment and control units and took measures to prevent further incidents by cutting the power and boarding up the unit.

Neighbourhood Inspector Colin Norden commented on the event, stating: “Raves are perceived to be unlicensed music events that are harmless fun and victimless crimes. Sadly this isn’t the case.

Not only do they serve as an outlet for the supply and use of illegal drugs but they cause significant community disruption and damage.

Illegal raves will not be tolerated and where appropriate, any sound equipment onsite will be seized.

Attendees leaving such an event, intending to drive, are also likely to be breathalysed.”
