Two teenage boys have been released on bail in connection with the death of a man following a serious assault in Cheltenham.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night, 8th April, when the 73-year-old victim was attacked on Honeybourne Way at around 7.30 pm.

The two boys, aged 17 and 16, were initially arrested on suspicion of murder after the assault.

They have now been released on bail as the investigation continues.

The altercation followed an incident where two males reportedly threw a large branch from the Millennium Bridge at a cyclist below, although the cyclist was not believed to have been injured.

After leaving the bridge, the males were approached by the victim, resulting in an exchange where one of the teenagers allegedly punched the man, causing him to fall.

The suspects fled the scene before police arrived.

Emergency services transported the victim to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital where he was in critical condition before passing away on Friday, 10th April.

Next of kin and the coroner have been notified.

Police have released CCTV images of the suspects as part of their investigation.

Officers expressed gratitude to those who have offered information and continue to seek witnesses to provide details.
