Swan bridge closure will make essential work possible
The historic bridge will undergo specialist work to help engineers find out how it was built
Swan Bridge in Bibury will be closed for three days from the 14th September.
The structure needs to undergo essential investigations by specialist teams to find out how it was built.
This is to ensure any future repair work can be carried out safely.
Leader of Gloucestershire County Council, Lisa Spivey says she understands peoples frustrations.
She said, ''whilst it is incredibly inconvenient for a bridge to be shut in such a sort of prime location, we do really need to do this. We want to preserve the beautiful Bibury setting in any way that we can.
Our infrastructure really needs to be looked after, it needs to be preserved, and we want to make sure we're doing that.
She added. ''It is about the the long term life span of a very beautiful and historic piece of architecture.''
The bridge is set to reopen on the 17th September. Signed diversion routes will be in place throughout the closure period and people are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
