Stroud prom pop-up to help with costs
A prom pop-up shop has opened in Stroud Library.
With prom season fast approaching teens from across the county will be looking to get their prom outfits sorted.
A pop-up prom shop in Stroud is open this week to help support people with the cost of dresses and suits.
The pop-up ran by Stroud Community Costumes allows people to hire prom outfits at whatever cost they can afford.
All items of clothing have been donated by members of the community and range from brand new with tags to second hand items.
The shop is being ran out of Stroud Library until the 17th of April and allows people to view and try on potential prom outfits.
Julie Sarahs, the brains behind the operation, told Greatest Hits Radio she set up the scheme after having to buy multiple outfits for her own daughters prom.
She said “I wondered how many other people are in this situation.
“Where they have struggled to buy something or with their conscience for sustainability or with their finances.
“And thought wouldn’t it be really nice to set up some kind of borrowing scheme for our local community to be able to benefit from.
“To be able to go to prom without having to spend a fortune or be thinking about all the plastics that are within the clothing to then being worn once and then being thrown away.”
The shops runs on a pay if you can, pay what you feel basis so that everyone is able to afford something to wear to their prom.
It’s as millions of people across the country are struggling with finances during the cost-of-living crisis.
Julie said “If they wish to make a financial contribution then they can.
I’m looking to be able to support people that might not have the finances available to be able to spend hundreds on a prom outfit.”
