Six-car collision near Andoversford caused by dangerous overtaking and drug use
Local police responded to a major crash on the A436 near Andoversford on Tuesday morning, 22 July 2025.
Around 8am, officers from the Cirencester Neighbourhood Policing Team joined the Cotswolds Response Team after a six-car collision on the busy road. The incident started when a grey BMW driver carried out a hazardous overtaking manoeuvre and collided head-on with a vehicle coming the other way. This triggered a chain reaction involving several other cars.
The BMW driver, a local man, tested positive for drugs at the roadside and is currently in hospital. Police say he will face further action once medically cleared.
Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported despite the multiple-vehicle pile-up.
Officers used the opportunity to remind drivers that many fatal collisions result from speeding, not wearing seat belts, drink or drug driving, and using mobile phones while driving.
Police stressed the importance of making safe choices behind the wheel to protect not only yourself but everyone on the road.
