Residents in Stroud say they’re becoming increasingly frustrated at sewage works taking place in the area.

Severn Trent’s £25million sewer upgrade scheme work has created road closures and traffic disruption across Stroud, creating access issues for homes and businesses.

A section of road on Acre street is the latest to face closures.

Residents living nearby say these works are causing issues in their everyday lives.

Local resident, Angel, told Greatest Hits Radio it’s annoying to live around: “I just don’t really understand it.

“They did it maybe 6 months ago and they went and they disappeared for a bit.

“And now they’ve come back and they’re doing the exact same thing, it makes me wonder if maybe they’ve screwed up somewhere.

“It’s very annoying, especially living around it.”

She added: “I don’t drive but I do get lifts from friends and my mum.

“She can’t come down this road anymore to pick me up and unfortunately, we both are disabled.

“We both have to walk out of our way just to come help each other out.”

Another local resident, Gareth, echoed similar frustrations: “It’s been terrible for the last couple of years.

“Just digging it up, putting it down, never knowing.

“The uncertainty of what’s going to happen around here, it’s just been very difficult.”

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “We want to thank Stroud residents for their understanding as our teams continue to work on a £25m sewer upgrade scheme to provide more capacity in the town, helping protect homes and businesses from blockages and flooding.

“We’ve installed over two miles of new pipes - including upgrading many of the old Victorian sewers - during the three-year scheme and do understand how disruptive roadworks can be for residents.

“But these measures are essential to ensure the safety of both our workers and the public, so we are truly grateful for the continued local support.”
