Repeat shoplifter banned from local stores for three years
Colt Valentine admitted five thefts and was banned from shops in Yate and Chipping Sodbury under a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order.
A man from Yate has been banned from entering several local shops after admitting to a string of thefts from businesses in South Gloucestershire.
Colt Valentine, 32, of Dowsell Way, was sentenced to a community order and given a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Monday 14 July.
He admitted five shop thefts in Yate and Chipping Sodbury between 29 May and 12 June, stealing meat, fish, alcohol and cleaning products worth £264. The court heard he had ignored bans from five shops and failed to stick to an acceptable behaviour agreement signed just weeks earlier.
Store workers said Valentine’s behaviour made them feel threatened and intimidated, with impacts on staff wellbeing, customer experience and business costs.
As part of the community order, Valentine must now undergo 12 months of treatment and engage in rehabilitation programmes to address his offending.
The three-year CBO bans him from entering any shops he’s been excluded from, and prohibits him from placing items into anything other than a shop’s basket or trolley.
Breaching the order could lead to arrest and a possible prison sentence.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Matthew Quick said: “This order will help protect staff and businesses who’ve experienced repeated distress. Persistent offending won’t be tolerated.”
