Famous faces from both rugby union and league came together last night at Gloucester’s Kingsholm stadium in the name of charity.

The 745 game was dreamt up over a WhatsApp message between the late Rob Burrow and former Gloucester star Ed Slater, all in the name of raising awareness for Motor Neurone Disease and funds to fight the illness.

Almost 10,000 rugby fans travelled from across the UK to come and support the players and charities.

My Name’5 Doddie was represented by the referees with 4ED on the union side and the Rob Burrow Discretionary Trust on the league side.

The game started off with Ed slater coming out to a standing ovation from fans on all sides.

There was a slight bias in the crowd with a lot of the Gloucester fans there to support their own so when team Slater got their first try the shed went wild, but team Burrow ultimately got the win for the second year in a row.

The game honouring Ed Slater, Doddie Weir and Rob Burrow is in its second year but many of the players taking part said they’d like to see it getting bigger as the years go on.

One of the players taking part was the traitors faithful Joe Marler, he told Greatest Hits Radio how the game compared to his recent television stint: “I was way more nervous for this, traitors was just a big fun game where there was no expectation from me, whereas this, people then half expect me to catch a ball, actually they shouldn’t because I never was any good at that.”

On how it feels to be a part of the game he said: “To get it as big as this now hopefully we can kick on, do it again next year get even bigger.

“It’s amazing to get all the support coming out and it’s just a privilege to be a part of.”
