Man sentenced for multiple shop thefts in South Gloucestershire
39-year-old Anton Varga faced charges at Bristol Magistrates' Court
Anton Varga, a 39-year-old from Berkeley House, Staple Hill, has received an eight-week jail sentence following his guilty plea to several shop thefts in South Gloucestershire.
Varga was sentenced at Bristol Magistrates' Court on 3rd September for six counts of shop theft.
Prior to these charges, he had been given a suspended sentence for earlier offences.
He went on to commit further thefts, resulting in arrest, charges, and ultimately a custodial sentence.
Varga also violated conditions of a Criminal Behaviour Order, leading to an additional mandate requiring him to pay compensation and a victim surcharge of £154.
Sgt Matthew Cooke from the Staple Hill Neighbourhood Team remarked on the verdict: "We welcome the custodial sentence issued by the courts as Varga is a prolific offender. We continue to urge business owners and retailers to report incidents to us. Shop thefts not only cause financial damage to the businesses targeted, but the associated anti-social behaviour can distress staff and the broader community."
