A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting two teenage girls, following a thorough investigation by Gloucestershire Constabulary's Child Abuse Investigation Team.

Aaron Grimshaw from Mountview Park in Lisburn appeared at Bradford Crown Court on Thursday 17th September and received a one-year prison term for two counts of sexual assault.

In the same hearing, Grimshaw received an additional four and a half years behind bars for unrelated offences investigated by West Yorkshire Police.

These offences included sexual assault on a female, sexual activity with a child, engaging in sexual communication with a child, and making indecent photographs of a child.

Grimshaw has been added to the Sex Offender Register and issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, both for an indefinite period.

The court heard how Grimshaw falsely claimed to be a police officer to approach two 16-year-old girls in a wooded area at Tutshill Recreation Ground on 22nd May.

He deceived the girls into believing they needed to be searched, and under these pretences, sexually assaulted them.

One of the girls courageously shouted for help, drawing the attention of their friends who recorded the incident on video, capturing Grimshaw's incriminating statements.

Police were notified that day, and Grimshaw was identified through the video. He was later charged with sexual assault.

Victim impact statements read during sentencing detailed the significant emotional and psychological impact Grimshaw’s actions had on the victims.

Detective Constable Caroline George from the Child Abuse Investigation Team commended the victims for their bravery in reporting the incident and for the quick thinking of their friends.

"I know this sentence won't take away the horrific memories they now carry; however, I hope it does allow them to move on from the horrible crimes that Grimshaw subjected them to," said Detective George.
