Man arrested in Gloucester for rape and kidnap over 30 years ago
Police arrest man decades after serious offences allegedly took place
A 69-year-old man has been arrested in connection with several violent sexual offences that allegedly took place over three decades ago.
Police detained the man at a location in Gloucester on 18th March on suspicion of rape, kidnap, indecent assault, and assault causing actual bodily harm.
The incidents reportedly occurred during the 1970s and 80s.
Officers from the Major Crime Investigation Team continue their inquiry, with specialist teams searching the premises as part of the ongoing investigation.
The victim has been notified of the arrest and provided with specialist support services.
Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Usher addressed the seriousness of the offences, noting the lasting impact on the victim.
Usher said: "These violent sexual offences were committed over a sustained period and have had a lasting impact on the victim.
"While decades may have passed, we continue to investigate these offences due to the seriousness of them as we try to hold the individual responsible accountable."
The suspect is currently in police custody and will be interviewed by detectives as further inquiries are underway.
