A 69-year old man who was arrested for a second time on suspicion of murdering a woman in Gloucester 33 years ago has been released on bail.

Carol Clark, from Bristol, was 32 when her body was discovered partially clothed by a dog walker in reeds and undergrowth near the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal on 28th March 1993.

She had been strangled and her neck had been broken.

The man arrested was first detained on suspicion of Carol’s murder in April 2023 and had remained under investigation.

He was subsequently rearrested by Gloucestershire Police's Major Crime Investigation Team yesterday (14th April) following a significant development in their investigation.

The man, from Gloucester, has now been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Police say Carol's family have been updated and they will continue to keep them informed as the investigation progresses.
