Major work to Junction 10 of the M5 from early next year will mean the exit will be closed for up to two years.

The work will transform junction 10, located between Cheltenham and Tewkesbury, into an all-movements junction, allowing drivers to join and leave the M5 in all directions for the first time ever.

We have been speaking to Julian Tooke, Gloucestershire County Council Cabinet Member for Business, Economic Development, Planning and Infrastructure. He told us more about why the work is vital to the area's development.

Julian said, ''Junction 10 of the M5 is going to get a new all movements junction. So that will be really terrific because it will mean that you're able to enter or leave the junction from any direction.''

He added, ''We're really aware and really conscious that this will be an inconvenience to people, but it's the only way that we can get the junction done really efficiently and safely.''

Public information sessions will be held in November to answer questions from those affected.

Julian emphasised that the council understand the disruption and concern this work may cause but assures people that it will have a hugely positive impact on growing communities nearby.

He said, ''I think we are doing what politicians are meant to do here. We have a plan, which means that we are putting infrastructure in at the same time that housing will go in, at the same time that economic development will happen.''

''It will also support 20,000 new homes and we need new homes and it will also support Golden Valley and the economic development which is happening around there.
