Hartpury University unveils new Learning Hub to boost student success in Gloucestershire
Skills Minister marks opening with a focus on educational and career opportunities
Hartpury University celebrated the official opening of its new University Learning Hub on 5th June, signalling a major commitment to student success and higher education enhancement in Gloucestershire.
The event saw attendance from Skills Minister Jacqui Smith MP, local MP Matt Bishop, as well as representatives from local government, industry partners, charitable trusts, students, and members from Hartpury's community.
The modern facility, spanning over 3,100 square metres, is designed to promote learning, wellbeing, employability, and support services within an inclusive environment.
Professor Andy Collop, Vice-Chancellor and CEO, spoke about the Hub's transformative effect on student generations, saying, "This building represents a major investment in our students, their futures, and the future of higher education here at Hartpury and across Gloucestershire."
He noted the Hub is a space for independent study, collaborative work, academic support, careers advice, and social connectivity, accessible 24/7.
The Learning Hub consolidates a spectrum of services under one roof, such as a library, teaching rooms, student support, employability assistance, wellbeing facilities, and social learning areas.
The initiative received support from Forest of Dean District Council, national government, and stakeholders through the Levelling Up Fund programme.
Professor Collop acknowledged the contributions of Kildare Trust and Elizabeth Creak Charitable Trust towards the facility's enhancement.
Skills Minister Jacqui Smith praised the investment in skills and education, highlighting Hartpury’s role in workforce development.
During her speech, Smith noted Hartpury University's strong track record in employability and career services, emphasising its partnerships and community engagement efforts.
She commended ongoing collaboration with employers and the synergy between Hartpury University and Hartpury College in offering learning pathways.
Hartpury was recently named Specialist University of the Year 2026 by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide, in recognition of its notable educational contributions.
Guests were offered guided tours to experience the new hub's support for learning, innovation, and student success.
As it becomes a staple of campus life, the Hub aims to foster academic, professional, and personal growth for students over the years.
