Gloucestershire mental health charity sees rise in young people looking for support
Talk Well supported over 3000 young people last year
Gloucestershire mental health charity Talk Well say they’ve seen a rise in the number of young people seeking support since 2013.
The charity, formerly known as Teens In Crisis, supported 3,111 young people aged between 9 and 25 last year alone.
Information gathered from the charity found that anxiety, worry or stress was the most common issue faced by young people and was experienced by 78% of those surveyed.
This was followed by family relationship problems which were experienced by 40% of young people they helped and one in 10 have plans, have made attempts, or have thoughts about ending their life.
CEO of the charity, Claire Power-Browne said: “We believe in creating a safe space where no problem is too big or too small.
“We’re here to support each and every young person who comes to us, helping them to find ways to cope.
“Talk Well is a place where children and young people can feel safe and be heard.”
On why numbers seem to be rising she told Greatest Hits Radio “You could make that link with the rise of things like phones and access to the internet.
“We definitely think there’s a big link between what children and young people ae seeing on social media and how they’re feeling about themselves.”
