Following action by the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit two men from Gloucestershire have been arrested for failing to pay back money they have obtained through crime.

Glyn Hendy age 52 of Barnwood, and Remell Brown age 26 of Abbeydale were arrested by SWROCU’s Proactive Economic Crime Team (PECT) for non-payment of their confiscation orders.

Hendy received a suspended sentence back in August 2019 for laundering money he’d made from selling cannabis. He was arrested on 5 August for failing to pay back the outstanding confiscation totalling £13,420.

Remell Brown was arrested on 20 August for non-payment of a confiscation order of £1,161 and appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court the same day. He was sentenced back in October 2022 for 31 months for supplying crack cocaine.

Both men have been released on bail and are due to attend North Somerset Magistrates’ Court on 29 August.

Sergeant Rob Compton from the PECT said: “We are actively targeting criminals across the South West who have benefitted financially from their crimes and have ignored or refused to pay back the proceeds as ordered by the court.

“We want to send a clear message that we will continue to enforce confiscation orders no matter how much time has lapsed. We will not allow offenders to keep money that has been gained through illicit activity.”
