Gloucestershire farmers to head to London for fresh demo on inheritance tax
The NFU is carrying out a Pancake Day rally in London
Farmers from across Gloucestershire and the South West are among those heading to London to call on the government to change its mind over inheritance tax.
The Family Farm Tax is being described as 'cruel' by the National Farmers Union - but the government insists the majority of farms will be unaffected by the move.
Changes are due from April 2026 which will see tax put on on inherited assets worth more than a million pounds for the first time.
Gloucester MP Alex McIntyre said: "There are difficult decisions and I can appreciate that farmers are disappointed with the decision over inheritance tax but we have invested £5m into farming and we're really determined to make sure that we are supporting British farmers.
"We know how important they are for food security and the future of the country but there were difficult decisions for a number of groups in the budget and I appreciate that people will raise concerns about that.
"We haven't shied away from the fact that there were some difficult decisions in the budget last year.
"We would rather have not been in the position that we had to make those difficult decisions but the last government left behind such a black hole in the government finances that we had to fill it."
