Gloucestershire charity marking ‘Purple Hollieday’
The Hollie Gazzard Trust are marking their annual Purple Hollieday fundraiser
Purple HollieDay is The Hollie Gazzard Trust’s annual day of celebration held each July during Hollie’s birth month.
Hollie Gazzard was tragically murdered by an abusive ex parent at her work in Gloucester back in 2014 after experiencing stalking and domestic abuse.
The day was set up to honour the life of Hollie Gazzard while raising vital funds to support the Trust’s ongoing mission: educating young people on healthy relationships and preventing future abuse.
The trust describes Purple HollieDay as a chance to unite in support of positive change, ensuring that young people learn how to recognise the signs of unhealthy relationships and know how to seek support.
The money raised on Purple Hollieday helps the trust deliver vital assemblies in schools across Gloucestershire and continue their mission to tackle violence against women and girls.
People who want to join in are encouraged to #GoPurple, whether that’s wearing purple or having purple themed fundraisers like bake sales.
CEO of the charity, Jane Harvey, told Greatest Hits Radio why it’s so important to mark the day annually: “It’s important to those who loved Hollie and the supporters of the Hollie Gazzard Trust that we make Purple Hollieday an annual event.
“We have a responsibility as a charity and as a community to make sure that what happened to Hollie is still in the minds of everyone.
“Particularly our young people because things haven’t changed enough.
“The lessons that we need to learn from what happened to Hollie are still there and we need to make sure that every generation of young person going forward knows about them.”
