Businesses at Gloucestershire Airport are being reassured it will continue operating after plans to sell it collapsed.

Gloucester City Council and Cheltenham Borough Council had been in negotiations with preferred bidder Horizon Aero Group over the long-awaited sale but talks fell through earlier this month (March).

The council's who are joint owners of the site in Staverton say they are exploring options for it's long-term future but have stressed the airport is not currently for sale.

They added that their priority is keeping the airport open and supporting the business there.

Speaking after a meeting with airport-based businesses yesterday afternoon (30th March), Gloucester City Council’s Director of Place, Assets & Regeneration, Andy Hearne said:

"Our immediate focus is unequivocally on stability, supporting the businesses that operate here and ensuring the airport continues to function as an airport.

"It is sensible that both councils are now taking the time to properly consider the best way forward, with the aim of achieving the best possible outcome for everyone."

The councils have previously acknowledged that the airport currently operates at a loss and confirmed they are examining ways to reduce annual operating costs while maintaining its current status as one of the the busiest general aviation airports in the UK.
