An unprecedented youth mock parliament is set to take place in the Forest of Dean, bringing together all six secondary schools in the constituency for a political event hosted by MP Matt Bishop.

Taking place at the Forest of Dean District Council Chamber, students will assume various political roles, including leaders, whips, ministers, and shadow ministers, as they engage in a parliamentary-style debate on an AI Bill.

The event will culminate in a final vote, offering participants a hands-on experience of political life.

Matt Bishop MP aims to showcase the engagement and enthusiasm of young people in politics and democracy, highlighting this initiative as a national first.

Adam Harrington , Head of Politics at Dean Magna School believes the event could inspire students as they consider their future careers, creating an atmosphere filled with exciting anticipation among pupils eager to debate and express their views.

He also explained how the students have been preparing speeches in advance for the big day.

The mock parliament is designed to facilitate more than debate; it seeks to empower students to explore the possibilities within the political sphere and perhaps even ignite ambitions to become future leaders, politicians, journalist and many more professions.
