Emergency response to two-storey building fire in Lydney

A building fire on Hill Street in Lydney has led to road closures during rush-hour traffic this morning (9/3).

According to traffic monitoring service Inrix, the road had been blocked between Swan Road and Bream Road.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Respond

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service reported they were called to the scene at 3.17 am to address a fire in a two-storey building used for both commercial and residential purposes.

Six fire engines were deployed; two each from Lydney, Coleford, and Cinderford, along with a water carrier from Cheltenham and an aerial ladder platform from Gloucester.

The flames originated from the kitchen of the commercial premises and extended to an adjoining building.

Crews utilized three hose reels and 22 sets of breathing apparatus to combat the fire.

The commercial property sustained 50% fire damage and was completely damaged by smoke, with the adjoining building suffering the same extent of damage.

The first-floor flat experienced 10% fire damage and was 50% damaged by smoke.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters confirmed the fire was stopped at 8.47 am.

Advice for the Public

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service advised people to avoid the area, suggesting alternative routes due to road closures.

They also recommended keeping windows and doors shut to prevent smoke inhalation.
