A man and a woman have pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of two men including an 80-year-old man from the Cotswolds.
Adina Mihai, 31, and Madalin Dumitru, 30, both formerly from Ilford, also admitted to the manslaughter of a 37-year-old man from Oxfordshire as well as two counts each of pleaded administering poison at the outset of their trial at Oxford Crown Court today (24 June).
The pair targeted men seeking sexual services between August 2024 and July 2025.
The victims paid financial deposits before Mihai met them at their homes, secretly spiking their drinks with a powerful sedative to render them unconscious and steal from them.
Two victims, 37-year-old Gary Mouat from Banbury and 80-year-old Malcolm King from Bagendon near Cirencester, died as a result.
Gary was found dead at his property on 13th July last year.
Upon discovering the poisoning, Thames Valley Police issued a national bulletin to alert other forces about the potential connection to unexplained deaths.
Thames Valley Police also discovered two surviving victims, who Mihai and Dumitru had also drugged and stolen from.
Through forensic investigation, Gloucestershire Constabulary linked Malcolm's death to the poisonings after initially believing his passing on 21st August 2024 wasn't suspicious due to his pre-existing health condition.
Mihai and Dumitru were arrested on 31st July last year (2025) and charged on 6th August in relation to Gary's death.
They faced further charges concerning Malcolm’s death on 24th April this year (2026).
Statements from Investigating Officers
Detective Inspector Michael Roddy of Thames Valley Police commended the effort of teams involved in the complex investigation, stating:
"Adina Mihai and Madalin Dumitru used drugs to incapacitate men seeking sexual services, before stealing from them. For Gary Mouat, these actions had fatal consequences so I am pleased to have got answers for his family and would like to thank them for their support throughout our investigation."
Detective Inspector Adam Stacey of Gloucestershire Constabulary added:
"Tragically for Mr. King, Mihai and Dumitru’s callous and calculated actions had fatal consequences. The tireless work of all those involved in the joint investigation left Mihai and Dumitru with little choice but to plead guilty to manslaughter and administering poison in the face of overwhelming evidence."
The pair are remanded in custody and are due to be sentenced at a date to be determined later this year.
The judge indicated they will face substantial terms of imprisonment.
